Members of the Healthcare Team have been active in several arenas.

1. A partnership with Access DuPage was implemented to conduct enrollment of new patients at member institutions. This has proved to be successful and will be an ongoing partnership (see below for more information).

2. Health Needs Survey
A health needs survey was developed and tested out at one member congregation. The Healthcare Team would like to expand this research and is seeking to have leaders do an assessment of health needs in each member institution.

3. Healthy Illinois Plan
The goals of Healthy Illinois are to increase access to health care for Illinois residents, enhance the quality of care, and control the rising costs of care. Several members of the Healthcare Team have been actively participating in developing this plan. The Healthy Illinois bill – SB 11 – is a work in progress. The lead Senate sponsor, Majority Leader Debbie Halvorson, is seeking further input and has stated that she will not call the bill for a vote until she has gotten input from stakeholders. The coalition is reaching out to diverse groups now, and will look for legislative action when the General Assembly reconvenes.

4. Healthcare Team Meetings
It is not necessary to be a healthcare professional to become part of this team. For more information contact: Larry Hjorth 630-499-1188.or l.hjorth@sbcglobal.net

Access DuPage
Access DuPage assists uninsured DuPage County residents in obtaining primary medical services. This includes office visits to a primary care physician or clinic, laboratory, x-ray and prescription drugs--all for a small fee. Access DuPage participants must have resided in DuPage County for more than 30 days, be under age 65 and not eligible to participate in another health program. Participation begins by completing an enrollment form and submitting it with supporting documents.

Access DuPage has openings for new participants and is seeking new enrollment sites. DuPage United member institutions are invited to participate in enrolling people at their churches, mosques, synagogues and institutions. Access DuPage staff will provide training for volunteers.
