Healthy Illinois
Plan
Access to affordable health care is a
problem for many in our county, state and country. Lack of
affordable health insurance is one of the biggest barriers
to accessing health care. In particular, this affects small
businesses and self-employed individuals who are unable to
negotiate the more affordable premium rates of large
employers. Due to the ever-rising costs, many small
businesses cannot afford to offer health insurance to their
employees. In some regions of our state, this is now
affecting small municipalities.
An initiative called “The Healthy Illinois Plan” was
proposed as a solution to rising healthcare costs. The
Healthy Illinois Plan seeks to build a statewide coalition,
a public-private partnership, to provide insurance to small
businesses, self-employed and uninsured individuals.
